Englobe is the only company in Quebec certified by ECO Canada to provide BEAHR training to Indigenous people

BEAHR training programs were designed by ECO Canada to develop local environmental competencies and foster green careers nationally in indigenous communities. Englobe is currently the only company in Quebec certified to offer BEAHR training.

In 2017, Nemaska Lithium wanted to set up environmental training programs for the Nemaska Cree community in James Bay. Nemaska Lithium’s goal was to promote hiring from the community and also to quickly meet environmental requirements related to construction and operation of the Whabouchi lithium mine. BEAHR training programs were therefore key to achieving its objectives.

Englobe, through its Wabajuu joint venture, was charged with preparing courses under the BEAHR training program and delivering them to members of the Nemaska community.

The “Meet the Elders” activity brought traditional knowledge into the classroom.

After thorough preparation, two members of Englobe’s Environmental and Social Studies team became licensed BEAHR trainers and travelled to Nemaska to deliver the Environmental Core and Environmental Monitoring Coordinator – Research courses.

The 5-week training was very positively received by the community and was highly successful. The entire group appreciated the teaching style, which included numerous field activities. The program’s strength is the way it combines traditional and scientific teachings.

It was an exciting challenge for our trainers.
